Using of Windows 2000 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Using of Windows 2000 - Essay Example There is a dire need to protect such information from prying eyes. (Scambray et al., 2003) The reputation of a company might be at stake if such information would be divulged. Moreover, people’s privacy would be compromised on a grandiose scale too if such information went public. There is also the risk of exploitation of such information. In order to protect these computing systems, numerous systems have been developed but loopholes still remain. This text is centred on an exploit for port 443 for a Windows 2000 based domain controller. Table of Contents Abstract 1 Introduction 3 Vulnerabilities in Networks 3 Delineating HTTPS and Port 443 4 Case Study 4 Assumptions 4 Way Forward 5 Analysis of Assumptions 5 Gathering Intel for Attack 5 Accessing the Server 6 Reason for Buffer Overflow 8 Securing a Foothold 8 Conclusion 9 Bibliography 10 Introduction Windows 2000 was developed by Microsoft as a business solution to host data and other services. A total of four different editio ns of Windows 2000 were released which were Professional, Server, Advanced Server and Datacentre Server. Other limited editions were also released by Microsoft in 2001 but the baseline of Windows 2000 being a business machine persisted. (Pastore, 2003) On its release, Windows 2000 was marketed as the most secure Windows ever built. (Microsoft, 2000) However security flaws within the Windows 2000 framework continued to plague the system right till the lifecycle end in July 2010 when Microsoft stopped issuing new security updates. (Microsoft, 2011) Vulnerabilities in Networks Windows 2000 has been likened to the eggshell concept. Similar to the egg’s shell, the exterior security layer is robust yet vulnerable. However, as soon as the exterior security layer is breached, the inside of the network is â€Å"mushy† and easier to manipulate. This general principle is not limited to Windows 2000 based network servers but to networks in general too. (Ethical Hacker Network, 201 1) In general various vulnerabilities exist on network machines especially in respect to ports that can be scanned and accessed for intrusion. The possible exposed ports all have the potential to be converted into vectors for an attack on the concerned machine. The most common ports utilised by various applications on a typical Windows based machine are listed below to delineate vulnerability. (Ethical Hacker Network, 2011) TCP Port Applications 20 FTP data channel 21 FTP control channel 23 Telnet 25 SMTP 53 Connection oriented DNS (resolution on UDP 53) 80 HTTP 88 Internet Key Exchange (IKE) 110 POP3 (mail) 135 Windows RPC Endpoint Mapper 137 NETBIOS Name Service 139 NETBIOS Session 389 LDAP 443 HTTP/S 445 Common Internet File System / native SMB on Windows 2000 and higher 636 LDAP over SSL 1433 SQL Server (1434 if the port scanner can perform UDP too) 1723 PPTP 3268 LDAP to a Windows Global Catalogue Server 3389 Remote Desktop Protocol (Windows Terminal Service) It must be kept in mind that these ports are available for Windows based machines. If other OS are being utilised, the machine’s vulnerability may lie at other ports which would be open. (McInerney, 2000) This investigation is concerned with port 443 used for HTTP/S services and so it will be looked into in more detail. Delineating HTTPS and Port 443 HTTPS (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) is a combination of the simple HTTP with an additional SST/TLS security layer. This helps to encrypt data being moved through web pages. Generally this protocol is used for online payments and transactions.

Ritz Carlton Case Studies Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Ritz Carlton Case Studies - Essay Example In Malaysia, McBride, the general manager, introduced the practice of extending a welcome to passengers at the airport by giving discount coupons and mimosas, amongst others, not to mention the presence of a fully furnished room of Ritz-Carlton in the airport. All these were totally novel and unique concepts of marketing that go on to fortify the hotel’s image as a leader in the realm of customer care.† (1) Another vital factor contributing towards the hotel’s success story is the tremendous amount of importance that is accorded to people associated it – both employees and also the customers. The consistent growth of any organization is heavily dependent on the manner in which the people associated with it are treated. This very factor is all the more relevant for entities operating in the sphere of hospitality. â€Å"It is the firm conviction of Ritz-Carlton that when a customer stays in its premises, for the entire duration, the hotel is the home for them. Hence, the hotel’s 7 Day Countdown Orientation program for new recruits is predominantly aimed at making them fully understand the relevance of this concept. One of the first precepts communicated to the new employees is â€Å"We all are ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen†. This speaks volumes about the friendly and amicable treatment that Ritz-Carlton gives to its employees. Additionally , it is in this very cordial atmosphere that the skills of the employees are honed, ensuring that they run the extra mile in addressing the all-important aspect of customer service. Last but not the least, the various things inclusive in the orientation program such as The Credo, The Employee Promise and The Twenty Basics, to cite a few, go a long way in making sure that employee efficiency would invariably lead to customer satisfaction.† (1) At this juncture, it would be worthwhile to understand as to what actually is being sold by Ritz-Carlton. Meaning of life Essay Example for Free

Meaning of life Essay â€Å"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. † –Nelson Mandela The importance of learning is to enable the individual to put his potentials to optimal use. Education makes man a right thinker and a correct decision-maker. It achieves this by bringing him knowledge from the external world, teaching him to reason and acquainting him with past history, so that he can be a better judge of the present. With education, he finds himself in a room with all its windows open to the outside world. A well educated man is a more dependable worker, a better citizen, a centre of wholesome influence, pride to his community and honour to his country. A nation is great only in proportion of its advancement in education. Education is Self Empowerment. Receiving a good education makes a person strong enough to look after himself in any given situation. It keeps him aware of the given surrounding as well as the rules and regulations of the society. Its only through knowledge that one can question authority for its negligence or discrepancies and only then that can a person avail his rights as a citizen and seek improvement in the structural functioning of governance and economy. As a whole, people can bring about development only when they know where improvement is necessary for the greater good of mankind. Education gives a better understanding to the person, it helps realize potential and qualities one possesses as a human being. It helps tap into latent talent, so that people can sharpen their skills. Education teaches what man lives and struggles for. It cultivates an integrated life. By so doing, it gives significance of life. It helps restores financial stability and dignity of life. It is the essential basis of a good life. Education enlightens and lifts a nation to heights of progress. The problem in India is that it has adopted democracy without preparing the ground for it by educating population. But its never too late to undertake mass programmes of Adult education or Social education. Adult education is the education of grown up men and women. In the complex modern times, people must be knowledgeable and be aware of what they are doing and what is being done to them. To create such sentience every responsible citizen should take up this social cause and educate the knowledge deprived people. Teaching a daily worker for just an hour daily can change their lives in propitious ways as it was rightly quoted by Neil Armstrong, ‘One small step is a giant leap for mankind’. In recent history our country has taken up good measures to ensure a high educated population by taking up several social causes and concentrating on the rural areas, since they comprise a majority but the system has been laid back due the restraints imposed by old cultural ethics. For the past few centuries in India, the girl has been completely neglected even as a human being, her sole purpose of life has been to feed the family and bear a child. Good education has been denied to women. It is argued that women have their domestic duties to perform and that, if they were educated, they would bury themselves in their books and have little time for attending to the management of their households. But what people fail to understand is education involves knowledge of the means by which health may be preserved and enable a mother to consult such modern books as will tell her how to rear up her children into healthy men and women and skilfully nurse them and her husband, when disease attacks her household. The purpose of education is not just earning a livelihood but education makes an individual into a good human being, which is passed on to the next the kith and kin. It is true that, the education of girls has lately taken a slight leap but this is only in a very small segment of Indian society. Unless the motion is fast and continuous, and includes more of poor urban and rural girls in the field of education, there can be no hope of having a developed and first world country status for India. â€Å"When a man is educated, only he is educated but, when a woman is educated, a family is educated. † – Indira Gandhi â€Å"Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farworkers can become the president of a great nation. It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another. † – Nelson Mandela.

The Mis Management Decision Making Problems

The Mis Management Decision Making Problems The situation given here is lacking in the things which are very important for the business performance and in management decision making. Less time consumption and more output is most important part of best business performance and management decision making. But in the case mentioned above, waste of time is very much as the whole week is used by the company to collect the spreadsheets from the heads of outlets and these outlets are more than 30 across the GCC. And not only collection is the job after that consolidation and re entering of all the data into another spreadsheets and this whole process is also time consuming. Utilization of more time declines the performance of the business time is the factor which allows the competitors to capture the market. Management decision making is based on the analysis of performance but in the case above there is no time to analyze the performance as the collection process is taking so much time that no time is left for making decisions. So t his results in poor management decision making. Decision is made on the data management but in this case there is no management process and everything depends on that financial analyst and that one week of collection and re entering of spreadsheets. Scenario 2- Ques- What is the business impact of this situation? Ans- There is immense business impact as the situation is worth thinkable as they are facing so many problems with the ownership of the mom-and-pop business at one of the costliest place in the world that is Abu Dhabi. The business is facing a downfall every second which does not seems to be improved in the near future due to various reasons as there is not enough of the sales persons involved in the which mainly results in the short and lose of a sale as the records could not be counted instead their own judgment plays an important role. There could be extent loss which is faced by the owners Jasim and Mariam. So the impact on the business could be worst if the business is not handled tactfully. Ques- How could information systems help Jasim and Mariam run their business? Ans- There are many information systems which means the combination of Information technology and the activities related to the people where technology is used to operate the management which is a much need of the corporation that is mom-and-pop business running in Abu-Dhabi, mainly it is a form of communication which can support human decision making and action of the people where it is suitable for the business as it could not be handled by the two persons which are facing many problems related to the management. Ques- What data should these systems capture? Ans- There are various sector on which the information system which act as a special type of work system as it work like a human to abstract the data like humans use the resources to produce a specific product or services for customers. The main problem which is faced is about the management of the business which cannot be handled by the owners of the company which is best suitable work for the Information system whose activities are dedicated to the processing which includes transmitting, manipulating, displaying, storing, capturing and retrieving that is what required managing the records of the business. There are many problems being faced by the owners which can be reduces through Information system that mainly focus on the information systems discipline and organizational informatics. Ques- What reports should the systems produce? Ans- In present time the information system is the best combination which is meeting up the requirements of the people as there is globalization seen in the market. The result which is produced by the information system is basically the solution for any problem and mainly in the management sector. There should be a permanent solution which should be given by the information system where there should whole procedure mentioned in order to keep the detail records of the shipment arrived. Whole of the system should give the clear report about the things which is to be improved and the process which are to be adopted for the better management. Ques- What decisions could the systems improve? Ans- There are various decision which are getting out of the track as they are not bringing the profit to the business which are the rent which they pay, problem in keeping the detail record, sometimes they face short of sale due to their wrong judgment and many other factors which can be factor in decrement in the sale of the business. The information systems which are used can be helpful in improving the above situation which may reduce the workload from humans as it can keep the records of the sales and the system is considered as the socio-technical system which is a mediator between the actions and technology. The whole of processing could be done through the information system as there are many processes which cannot be handled manually. Scenario 3- Ques- What business problems are created by not having these data in a single standard format? Ans- As there are many items which are currently running under the different database which is to be obtained under the same corporate-wide view of the critical sales information which can result in giving clear view of the best selling products according to the key customers, sales trends and geographic areas. There are many problems which are faced by the company or organization as it could be result in the cumbersome situation to judge the items overall review as it contains many things such as Product ID, Product description, Units sold, Cost per unit, Division, customer ID and many other things which is to be mentioned at the time of overall view of the product, therefore there is a need of single standard view under which there should be judging of the products could take place. Ques- How easy would it be to create a database with a single standard format that could store the data from both systems? Identify the problems that would have to be addressed Ans- It is lot easier to work in a database with a single standard format which could store the data of the two systems containing different products. The product should be defined under the different categories which make it easier for the employees to search a particular data under a particular heading instead there are many problems which are then being faced by the employees as there are many data which does not fall under any categories has to be given a separate heading which captures more space, sometimes the system is overloaded with the data which is stored monthly. So these were some of the problems which is addressed. Ques- Should the problems be solved by data specialists or general business managers? Explain Ans- The problems which are faced in the above situations is not a severe problem which requires any team work or any superficial officer, it can be solved through specialist of that area or sector and the business managers but now it depends on the problem which is faced as it could be technical or problem related to the management. So the problem which is technical could be solved by the Data specialist as heshe would be having greater knowledge of the problem instead of the manager who is mostly having the knowledge regarding the management field as they can handle the workforce working in any sector or area. Ques- Who should have the authority to finalize a single company-wide format for this information in the data warehouse? Ans- There are many people who have authority to finalize the single company-wide format but most of the time there is a discussion or meeting which is held to discuss about the advantages and disadvantages about the format and the result which comes out of the discussion is applicable on the working system as it is the outcome of the great minds working together. So mainly the power is with the CEOs of the company but for the sake of safety there is discussion which is necessary to be performed. Scenario 4: Ques- How could information systems help Paris Gallery management implement this new strategy? Ans Information system provides information on past, present and future project and also gives the information about relevant events inside and outside the organization. In this case the information system could help Paris Gallery management by gathering relevant data about the perfumes, cosmetics, bags, watches, jeweler and accessories and covert them into right information by telling the taste of the local people and would also help in supplying the same products which are matched by the taste of color, size etc of the local people where Paris gallery stores are present.. Information systems also gives information that gives indication about the goodà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s and bad of the new proposed ideas and through the information given by these systems Paris Gallery management could sense the advantages of implementing the new strategy. If the information provided by these systems indicates the failure of the new idea then the Parris Gallery management can change or modify their st rategies. IN these ways the information provided by the system could help in implementing strategy in the perfect way. Ques- What pieces of data should these systems collect to help management make merchandising decisions that support this strategy? Ans For helping the management to make merchandising decisions that support this strategy the pieces of data like the taste of the local people, which products are preferred by the local people, characteristic of products like color, size which are more purchased by the people should be collected by these systems. These systems should collect the information about number of stores that are already selling that type of products, which stores are preferred by the local people should be given to support the planning and control function of manager. These all data should be collected by the information systems for supporting this strategy of Parris gallery management. Scenario 5- 1 What factors should be considered? Ans- There are various factors included in the communications which already exists between the employees in the Oasis medical supplies corporation where telephone services, mobile phones and emails are generally used which is not compatible with the advancement in the technology of equipments so there is requirement of advance, fast and cheap communication where there are various factors play an important role which exists mainly in the unified communication which has main application of deploying powerful speech-enabled self service which is very useful for the purpose it is being used in the corporation where there could be emergency in the requirements to supply to the hospitals, clinics and medical offices. There are around 500 people who are employed in the corporation at several locations in UAE who has to remain in contact every single second that cannot be achieved through the cell phones, emails and various kinds of voice services. 2 What are the key decisions that have to be made in determining whether to adopt this technology? Ans- As there is communication between the employees of the companies the problems arrives when there is some sort of problem while using the traditional telephone services, mobile phones, e-mail and instant messaging instead of which there is another approach to the communication which is known as unified communication. The unified communication has more benefits as compared to the mentioned above communication as it is used in maximizing the existing infrastructure which can help in avoiding investing in the infrastructure sector, there is a stream line end-user communication which helps in adopting the latest versions of communications. The most important benefit is increase in efficiency and reduction in cost which is majorly considered while there is so much communication required in the firm. (Benefits, 2008)

Change In Heart Of Darkness :: essays research papers

Joseph Conrad once wrote, “the individual consciousness was destined to be in total contradiction to its physical and moral environment'; (Watt 78); the validity of his statement is reflected in the physiological and psychological changes that the characters in both his Heart of Darkness and Coppola’s Apocalypse Now undergo as they travel up their respective rivers, the Congo and the Nung. Each journey up the tropical river is symbolic of a voyage of discovery into the dark heart of man, and an encounter with his capacity for evil. In such a voyage the characters regress to their basic instincts as they assimilate themselves into an alien world with its primeval dangers. In Heart of Darkness, going up the river is described to be like: “travelling back to the earliest beginnings of the world, when vegetation rioted on the earth and the big trees were kings. An empty stream, a great silence, and impenetrable forest … '; (Conrad ?). The river, one which “resemble[s] an immense snake uncoiled … with its tail lost in the depths of the land'; (Conrad ?), is “dangerous, dark, mysterious, treacherous, [and] concealed'; (Karl 32). When the characters are unable to withstand the various temptations along this passage they helplessly sell their souls to corruption. In both the book and the movie, the various events along each individual journey help illustrate not only the physical deterioration of the environment and the characters’ health but also the psychological degradation of the characters’ conscience and consciousness. In both Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now, the various dramatic shifts in the environment from the onset of the river journeys delineate an increasing barbarity and savagery as the characters penetrate deeper and deeper into the heart of darkness. The direction of both journeys are formally established as a movement from “open and boundless to narrow and restricted spaces'; (Adelman 66), from the light of the sun into the darkness. Projected towards the wilderness, each journey reflects a voyage into the “gloom of over-shadowed distances'; (Conrad ?). In Heart of Darkness, the rivers begin to narrow as the ships approach Kurtz’s compound, and Conrad describes this last section of the river as “narrow, straight, with high sides like a railway cutting'; (?). In Apocalypse Now, the river towards the end of the journey is located between steep cliffs on both sides; these men are symbolically trapped within this valley, with no chance of escaping from the many h orrors they face.

The Voice of Billie Holiday Essay -- Exploratory Essays Research Paper

The Voice of Billie Holiday      Ã‚  Ã‚   A woman stands before you, and although she isn't a politician, she expresses her moving thoughts on issues that affect all Americans. Her voice isn't harsh or demanding in tone. Her stature is slender and traced in a shimmer of light that reflects from her dress. A southern magnolia is lying comfortably above her ear. She sings. She sings of incomprehension, of hate, and of a race's pain. She sings low and confused. She sings as "Our Lady of Sorrow"(Davis 1), a representation of a whole people torn and discriminated against.   And though her speech is not spoken, she moves a crowd, one that gathers into many. Billie Holiday comes to prove that one woman's voice, singing one song, that calls awareness to one issue of society, can change the world.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Music has come to shape our views of society, love, race, and creed. We can all remember a time when a song evoked an emotion. The song seemed to express every feeling within us. The artist sang the words we longed to say, and the music expressed all the things we couldn't speak. At the same time, music can help express the things we don't understand in life, creating a bridge between differences. Music of a different artist can represent the point of view of someone that you don't understand, that looks at you funny, dresses different, speaks oddly, and believes something you don't. Music can express the emotions you feel, and the emotions that someone else feels.. Ray Charles once said, "Thank God for music, it was a salvation"(Keep on Pushing). Music is emotion: whether rage, love, lust, hate or confusion, music teaches us that our views fall within the same staff as the views of those we don't understand. ... ... <www.nytimes.com/books/98/03/08/reviews/980.08davist.html.>. Types I and II Diabetes Essay -- Diseases, Disorders

There are some diseases people can overcome with the right treatment; however, there are some diseases that are a life long battle even with a treatment. An excellent example is diabetes. There are two types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is diagnosed during childhood or adolescence. Type 2 diabetes is diagnosed in adulthood. Type 1 diabetes is important but it only affects a small amount of the population mainly adolescence while Type 2 diabetes affects a large portion of the population making it more of a priority. The first step into understanding any disease is to find out how it is caused, its onset of symptoms, and finally the cure or treatment for it, but diabetes is one of many diseases without a cure. Diabetes is a life long struggle that can only be contained through life style changes and regular monitoring. Diabetes is a disease wherein the body is not able to control the amount of sugar like glucose in the blood. The blood delivers glucose to provide the body with energy to perform daily activities. The liver changes the food a person consumes into glucose. Subsequently, the glucose is released into the bloodstream. â€Å"In a healthy person, the blood glucose level is regulated by several hormones primarily insulin. Insulin is produced by the pancreas, a small organ between the stomach and liver. The pancreas also makes other important enzymes released directly into the gut that helps us digest food. Insulin allows glucose to move out of the blood into cells throughout the body where it is used for fuel.† The scenarios of people with diabetes is that there are some that do not produce enough insulin which is type 1 diabetes or the other type is with people that cannot use insulin properly which is type 2 diabetes (Pollin).... ...://www.emedicinehealth.com/diabetes/article_em.htm>. Social Media Article Review

The social network where no one knows your name It’s a new social network called Social Number, lists users by a number, not by name. It's the latest and greatest thing in an ongoing debate about being online and anonymous. The CEO of the company sees it as a complement to open social networking. Users say they appreciate being able to talk freely without fear of being judged. You can discuss anything and everything. You have a message board that you post questions and other people on that website can respond to that thread.Social Number users say they find value in being able to openly talk about sensitive topics without worrying about alienating or offending anyone. You have a message board that you post questions and other people on that website can respond to that thread. I think this a good thing to have, where people can express their feelings without having feedback from other people that they know mainly so they don’t offend them. You can talk about how to deal with a bad boss, politics, jobs, friends, the ups and the downs of life al can be discussed here without having your name put on a social network. This is also good for people who want to vent and have other people’s opinion. Another good thing about this anonymous social network is that there is no bullying or threats. For some people expressing your political views on a social network will get attacked by people who are friends with them. As we all have a freedom of speech, I don’t believe that anyone should be ‘attacked’ because they have their own opinion. http://www. cnn. com/2013/01/29/tech/social-media/social-number-anonymous/index. html? hpt=li_c2

Macbeth Charachter Essay

Macbeth Character Essay In Act 1, Macbeth is described by Duncan as â€Å"O valiant cousin! Worthy gentleman! † By the end of the play, Malcolm calls him a â€Å"dead butcher†. Trace the changes in Macbeths’ character, analysing the reasons behind them. Macbeth’s ruthless seeking journey for power, urged on by his wife, becomes his tragic flaw which leads to his downfall in all ways. The tragic hero is used by Shakespeare to show how the tragedy lies in the greatness that could so easily have been Macbeth’s.Inevitably, his conversion in character all results in his ambition which causes him to act in such brutal ways. We note how an idealised individual such as Macbeth’s changes into a despised one. We observe Macbeth’s greatness and bravery in combat through the Captain’s account of the battle. Macbeth is described as â€Å"Valour’s minion† who â€Å"carved out his passage till he faced the slave†. One exam ines the respect enclosed in his companion soldiers who give him the name â€Å"brave Macbeth†.This is followed by a line of reassurance which is â€Å"well he deserves that name†. Macbeth’s honour and excellence in battle is demonstrated in Duncan’s words â€Å"O valiant cousin! Worthy gentleman! †. His lack of fear displays his courage and heroism presented in the line â€Å"As cannons over-charged with double-cracks†. Shakespeare uses this to highlight the greatness he once had. We immediately suspect the thought of Duncan’s murder in Macbeth’s mind through the line â€Å"Good sir, why do you start and seem to fear things that sound so fair? . Macbeth’s ambition seems to take control of him as he continuously orders the witches to inform him of the prophecies in the lines â€Å"Stay, you imperfect speakers! Tell me more† and â€Å"Speak, I charge you! †. One can imagine Macbeth’s subsequent actio ns in the line â€Å"nothing is but what is not† as through it we realise that the only values that exists for Macbeth are those which he does not yet have, the Kingship. This continues to demonstrate how his ambition takes full control over him.Macbeth realises that he must act quickly as â€Å"The Prince of Cumberland† is â€Å"a step on which he must fall down, or else o’erleap†, which continues to indicate how his ambition is taking over him and triggers his thought of Duncan’s murder which will soon become a reality. Macbeth recognizes the various reasons of why he should not kill Duncan and is tormented about these doubts, however he resolves to his â€Å"Vaulting ambition, which o’erleaps itself and falls on the other†. However the loyalty shown to King Duncan in previous scenes is forgotten completely and his true colours are really being shown. We can see how Macbeth deceives Banquo by replying: â€Å"i think not of them† when Banquo says he dreamt of the witches. This is linked to the theme of â€Å"appearance vs. reality† as we see the â€Å"false face† Macbeth has put on. Macbeth’s guilty, overwrought brain induces him to see visions before he does the murder. His guilt becomes outwardly visible to his own eyes, which he calls â€Å"a dagger of the mind†. This is a sign of the great turmoil in his mind where this fearless soldier is now tormented by images of blood and fear of the unknown. After Duncan’s murder Macbeth realizes that because of the deed he has just committed he has lost the possibility of ever receiving blessing. He appears to be conscience stricken as he struggles to say â€Å"Amen†. He realises perfectly well the extent of his guilt as we see in the lines â€Å"Will all great Neptune’s Ocean wash this blood clean from my hand? No† and â€Å"The pluck out mine eyes†. Macbeth’s guilt induces loss of sleep and, since he has lost his peace of mind, his innocence and guilt will torture him. His guilt becomes clearly evident in the line â€Å"Wake Duncan with thy knocking!I would thou couldst† and this shows how he will be scarred and damned for eternity. Macbeth’s mind is tormented by the witches’ prophecy that Banquo’s descendants will be kings of Scotland and convinces murderers that Banquo has always been their enemy while forcing them to kill him. This imposes the reprehensive position with which he has become, even worse than the murderers. Macbeth’s guilt and wickedness is also embodied in the ghost of Banquo which appears to torture Macbeth at the banquet he has organised for the succession of the throne. As soon as Macbeth hypocritically mentions Banquo, he sees his ghost however Macbeth attributes his hallucination of the ghost to being a result of him being a beginner in murder. In later murders Macbeth appears to be quite hardened to the horrors o f murder. He does feel guilt but this is not enough to keep him from committing further murders as he says that he is â€Å"in blood stepped in so far that should I wade no more returning were as tedious as going o’er†. Macbeth derives security from the witches as he typically interprets the apparitions in his favour, rejecting what is unfavourable to him.We remember Hecate’s words: â€Å"security is mortals’ chiefest enemy†. By the end of the play Macbeth becomes completely ruthless and irrational and decides that â€Å"The very firstlings of my heart shall be the firstlings of my hand†. He therefore resolves to attack Macduff’s castle and kill his family. This accentuates Macbeth’s evil even more while showing the degeneration in his character as he murders a defenceless woman and her children. Macbeth no longer has any soul searching as he does not justify himself anymore with soliloquies before doing his deeds. This causes h im to become completely ruthless and unscrupulous, making him an outright villain. Although throughout the book Macbeth seems to be influenced by his wife and the witches, it is Macbeth and his will to become king that performs each and every deed. Macbeth could so easily have been a righteous and respectable person however it is his ambition and will that induces him to become a â€Å"hell hound† and a â€Å"dead butcher†. Although Macbeth has become a changed man his only kingly characteristic was his courage to fight until he, the lonely saddened yet ruthless character, died in battle.

Interpersonal Relationship and Friendship

Friendship is a single soul dwelling in two bodies. We're born alone, we live alone and we die alone. Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we're not alone. It is a very mysterious relationship that God create for human and it is one of the most important components in human life. It is as easy as ABC when it comes to find and make friends. Yet, it is not easy to manage a high-quality friendship.According to Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, friendship is a relationship between friends; the feeling or relationship that friends have; the state of being friends. However, an insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind. Here, I totally disagree with the statement that friendship is the most valuable thing in life as there are certainly more significant and priceless thing than friendship. In this essay, I will summarize how life itself is more valuable than friendship and expound why health, family and individual’s principle in life are at the upper rank. First and foremost, healthy is considered first before one enjoys the beauty of friendship as health is the most basic yet major asset that will make our life complete. Try to imagine that you are a disabled person, who is blind, deaf, or even dumb and obviously lack of a healthy body, the quality of your life is totally reduced.Even the power and strength of the friendship cannot bring back and make us healthy anymore. This may lead to the failure in create a colourful and splendid life. Without good health is exactly a stumbling block in life, without it you cannot do anything. Though friends show their love in times of trouble not in happiness, health is still the most important asset in our lives. Secondly, we are no one without our family as indeed blood is thicker than water. Family is one of the nature’s masterpieces.Andre Maurois quoted  "without family, man, alone in the world, tremble with the cold† shown that family is not the important thing in the world but it’s everything. To us, family mean putting your arms around each other and being there. Furthermore, it is the source of strength and also the reason of weaknesses. Thereby, family is always before than friendship. Friends will not be there for you forever but family is forever. In addition, some cases of betrayed among friendship made this society lack of confidence to operate a sincere friendship.Last but not least, an individual’s principle of life is far more valuable than friendship in life. The principle of life may due to the individual’s religion, ethics, and believe as this may guide them to live their life in a proper and right way. For instance, a person persist to do good since the principle guide them to do so then nobody could taint and breakthrough it. Thereupon, this may avoid the individual to commit with undesira ble deeds like smoking, abusing, murdering, raping, stealing, and others. Hence, life principle is a needs to an individual before create a friendship. In a nutshell, friendship is something you cannot learn in class and carry you to where money would not go. It is the sunshine and rainbow to make our life colourful but without good healthy, a loving family and strong principle, life is meaningless hollow. In short, I am still opposing that friendship is the most valuable things in life. Government can organise awareness campaign and parent should encourage and guide their children to learn about prioritise in life as they are the future pillars of the society.

Exceptions for Hyphenating Compound Adjectives

Exceptions for Hyphenating Compound Adjectives Exceptions for Hyphenating Compound Adjectives Exceptions for Hyphenating Compound Adjectives By Maeve Maddox Sometimes readers ask for posts that would require superhuman powers on my part: Kindly produce an article containing all the exceptions for hyphenating compound adjectives, with examples. Hyphenation is not an exact science, and not all style guides agree on the rules. The chief purpose of hyphenating compound adjectives is to avoid ambiguity. Most modern usage authorities opt for what The Chicago Manual of Style calls â€Å"a spare hyphenation style†: 7. Spelling, Distinctive Treatment of Words, and Compounds In general, Chicago prefers a spare hyphenation style: if no suitable example or analogy can be found either in this section or in the dictionary, hyphenate only if doing so will aid readability. When Grammar Girl was chided for writing â€Å"noise canceling headphones† instead of â€Å"noise-canceling headphones,† she pointed out that leaving out the hyphen in that phrase â€Å"causes no ambiguity.† When one of my own readers called my attention to the unhyphenated phrase â€Å"19th century standardization of time† in a recent post, I decided to change it to â€Å"nineteenth-century standardization of time†- not because I think it ambiguous without a hyphen, but because Chicago is the style guide I’ve chosen for these posts. I failed to note that Chicago offers an analogy for hyphenating nineteenth-century before a noun: fourteenth-century monastery (7.85). Note: Chicago recommends spelling out numerals below 100, so I must also change 19th to nineteenth. The AP Stylebook, on the other hand, requires the spelling out of numerals ten and below. For AP, 19th century is correct. Still another stylebook, The Blue Book of Grammar and Punctuation) offers this advice about hyphenating constructions like â€Å"nineteenth century standardization†: As important as hyphens are to clear writing, they can become an annoyance if overused. Avoid adding hyphens when the meaning is clear. Many phrases are so familiar (e.g.,  high school, twentieth century, one hundred percent) that they can go before a noun without risk of confusing the reader. Examples: a high school senior a twentieth century throwback one hundred percent correct Because practice varies, I wouldn’t begin to attempt to list â€Å"all the exceptions for hyphenating compound adjectives.† The best advice I can offer the reader who asked for such a list is this: Choose a style guide and follow its recommendations- advice I shall try to follow more carefully in future posts. Free Essays on Zen Action

Zen and action are inseparable- the latter being the most expedient means of transmitting the teachings of the former. Far from the attempts at conceptualization and articulation of the primary ideas of Zen, the more appropriate approach is through action, be it zazen or other significant acts. As Morinaga Soko explains of his own experience, â€Å"I had known nothing but theorizing; during my high school days I often spent the whole night with friends reading books on philosophy and arguing- talk, talk, talk. I now burned with shame because I could not even do such a simple job as cleaning a floor properly† (Kraft 1988, 18). Buddhism seeks to teach people that to notice the simple fact in front of them- that they are acting in a condition of oneness in the present moment- is to realize what reality is, to be awake to reality. And it says that when we immerse ourselves into what we are doing in the actual moment, we make ourselves balanced too. This allows us to overcome the tendency of the mind to cover up the essential nature of what we are doing in the present moment with analyses, opinions, objectives, expectations, uncertainties, and so on. Thus, action allows the practitioner to not miss the fact that is in front of him. In Zen and Japanese Culture, D.T. Suzuki also substantiates the importance of action in Zen. â€Å"[T]eaching by action, learning by doing. There is something like it in the actional approach to enlightenment. Honor vs. Honour

Honor vs. Honour Honor vs. Honour Honor vs. Honour By Maeve Maddox One of the most noticeable differences between U.S. and British spelling is that of pairs like honor, honour and glamor, glamour. The dropping of the u in such words is often attributed to the progressive thinking of American lexicographer Noah Webster (1758-1843), but Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) thought of it first. As a printer, Franklin had a professional interest in spelling. In 1768, he published his ideas and ordered a custom type font that included eight extra symbols. Years later, he approached Noah Webster with his innovations. Webster was not interested: There seems to be an inclination in some writers to alter the spelling of words, by expunging the superfluous letters. This appears to arise from the same pedantic fondness for singularity that prompts new fashions of pronunciation. Thus they write the words favour, honour, etc. without u† In 1768, Webster’s view was that it was better â€Å"to speak our language with propriety and elegance as we have it,† but by 1789, he’d changed his mind: I once believed that a reformation of our orthography would be unnecessary and impracticable. This opinion was hastyI now believe with Dr. Franklin that such a reformation is practicable and highly necessary.† By the time Webster published his first small dictionary in 1806, he was ready to drop the u from the â€Å"honour family† of nouns. Modern British spelling retains the u in armour, behaviour, clamour, colour, endeavour, favour, fervour, flavour, glamour, harbour, humour, labour, neighbour, odour, rancour, rigour, rumour, saviour, splendour, and similar words. Even in British spelling, however, when certain endings are added to these nouns, our becomes or. The endings that alter the our spelling are -ous, -ary, -ation, -ial, and ific. The following are both British and U.S. spellings: glamorous, humorous, laborious, rancorous, rigorous, coloration, honorary, honorific, armorial. Note: the word behaviour seems to be putting up a fight. The OED gives both spellings, behavioural and behavioral. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Comparison between Amazon.com and Borders Books Essay

Comparison between Amazon.com and Borders Books - Essay Example Another concern of the present study is the Borders Books that represents a bookstore publicly held spreading its business through a large number of stores and encountering different stages of business. Thus the current study focuses on the two different companies- Amazon.com and Borders Books- and conducts a learning on their histories, business approaches, management and marketing and how they have gone through their successes and failures and thus try to recommend some policies that might enable the companies to have better marketing conditions. History of Amazon.com and Borders Books: The Amazon.com Company was started in the year 1994 by Jeff Bezos. The origin of the company was in Washington. Bezos’ idea regarding the business was appreciated and investments were supported by Nick Hanauer who was a businessman by profession. Then the company had plans to go online and spread its business. Initially the business was not as shining as it is known to be in the present times . In the early times of its initiation, the website was not very attractively designed and hence lacked the attention of the customers. By the year 1995, a person named Tom Alburg helped the company through further investments and thus the website was designed newly which then started attracting customers. Gradually the company introduced several products and within a short span of time, the company gained huge success as well as profits (The History of Amazon.com, 2011). The history of Borders Books reflects the contribution of several stores of books that include the Borders, Waldenbooks and Brentano's. The Borders Bookstores were started by two brothers, Tom Borders and Louis Borders, in the year 1971. Initially the store was opened in Ann Arbor. Later stores were also opened in Michigan, Atlanta and Indianapolis. Their books were also sold through other booksellers. The first superstore of the company was established in the year 1985. By the year 1988, the Borders bookstores, wh ich later went online, proved to be huge success and delivered efficiently (Peterson, 2012). Business Approach, Management and Marketing of Amazon.com and Borders Books: As far as the business approaches of the two companies are concerned, it has been observed that the Amazon.com and Borders Books both had its focus on the increasing sales and the satisfaction of the customers. While Amazon.com has been found to initially struggle and later on efficiently managed success till the present times, the Borders Books have been found to initially achieve success but later the company failed to maintain its position in the market and lost to bankruptcy. It has been found that the concept of internet marketing was much more effectively understood and utilized by Amazon.com rather than by Borders Books (Volcanic, 2009). Amazon.com had its focus on the customers’ preferences and the manner in which there website could be more attractive to them. Thus initially when the company had rece ived financial assistance it focused on the design of the website that resultantly gained more customers for the company. The company was so concerned with the customers’ satisfaction that they even introduced systems to receive feedback from the customers, thus giving the customers the feeling of being significant. When the company encountered severe losses in 2001, it initiated

Preserving Knowledge for Future Generation Essay

Preserving Knowledge for Future Generation - Essay Example Preserving Knowledge for Future Generation One of the major treasures that have been destroyed in the process of these disasters is intellectual property and information. Information impacts knowledge to the society and carries a lot of power especially given its capability to influence generations as well as providing continuity in a society. In an attempt to secure knowledge, the current generation has widely advanced and used technology to ensure that information of whichever form is preserved and retrieved when required. Electronic sources are now being used to store whatever knowledge is available. However, the information already lost remains irretrievable thereby creating an inconsistency of knowledge over generations. Quite a big chunk of the historic knowledge has been lost through disasters making us deficient of it and unable to decipher what it was all about. Library destruction has been an issue that has denied the current society of the need to link modernity with some historic knowledge. These destructions have been under the influence of human intents based on certain motivations or just by accident. Human-made activities make the bulk of the destroyed books and other knowledge carrying materials. There are key incidences in history that have led to massive destruction of knowledge. Firstly, the destruction of the Library of Alexandria in the ancient Egypt is one of the landmark knowledge losses in the early history. It is reported that the library contained a collection of many works to the extent of attracting the earlier scholars who are said to have converted the library to be their study base. Many papyrus scrolls and books not only had massive information about the early culture but also knowledge based on religion, philosophy, and economics among other areas. Being one of the early centers of civilization and the proximity with Rome and Greece provided a perfect location knowledge sharing and acquisition. It is not clear whether the library was destroyed by fire or several destruc tive events but it was completely ruined with all the knowledge it carried. Closely related to it was the Library of the Serapeum that became the alternative of the early scholars after the one in Alexandria was destroyed. This library was too destroyed by burning and looting of the resources thereof. Some reports have indicated that the destruction of the library was catalyzed by the order given by Theodosius I, making the library to be burnt to ashes. This led to destruction of the books and scrolls that had remained from the destruction of the Library of Alexandria. The cultural knowledge was the main victim of the two incidences in early Egypt. Another ancient incidence that caused destruction of a wealth of resourceful information is the destruction of Nalanda in India around 1193 AD. Nalanda was one the revered religious learning centers in India; highly regarded for the position that it had given Buddhism. It had wealth of knowledge contained in books that attracted people fr om as far as China, Persia, Greece and Tibet. The great library was destroyed in a war by Muslim army from Turkey, they set fire on it and is reported to have destroyed all the documents and books contained therein. The library was so big that it burnt for almost three months. Apart from the loss of the knowledge that was present in the library resources, the culture as well as Buddhism was adversely affected. In addition, religious affiliated

Management of tricyclic antidepressant overdose Essay

Management of tricyclic antidepressant overdose - Essay Example The major use of the drugs belonging to this class has been of course as an antidepressant, but they have also found to be effective in controlling enuresis and attention deficit disorder in children and incontinence in the elderly. Other miscellaneous indications for use are Migraine, chronic pain, neuralgias, hiccups and irritable bowel syndrome. However the Therapeutic Index of these drugs has a narrow margin of safety i.e. the dose level between therapeutic and toxic level is very less. This accounts for several cases of adverse effects and acute toxicity with these compounds. The toxicity is due to the same manner and mechanism of action in which the drug exerts its therapeutic action. Although poorly understood, the TCAs are hypothesized to exert their therapeutic action by preventing the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin by the presynaptic neuron. This results in an increased supply of these neurotransmitters in the synapse, which continues to stimulate the effector cells and organs. It is this constant stimulation that is believed to be responsible for the clinical improvement in depression (Baldessarini, 1989). According to Richelson (1982) TCAs are also competitive antagonists of histamine H1 andH2 receptors. They also block muscarinic acetylcholine and alpha-one adrenergic receptors. The toxicity symptoms and presentations are manifested as central nervous system toxicity in the form of myoclonic seizures, cardiovascular complications like life threatening arrhythmias, asystole, ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation. The patient is usually presented with symptoms of orthostatic hypotension which is quite common with TCA use and is independent of the age factor and in some cases is followed by cardiac arrest. FGM - Essay Example l such as doctors and midwives have performed the ritual, mostly for financial gain in countries including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Somalia, Kenya, Sudan, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Mali, and Nigeria. It is also practiced among the immigrants in Europe, Australia, Canada and the United States of America (Kontoyannis and Katsetos, p.32). It is called mutilation because there is no medical reason to remove otherwise healthy and useful organs of the body (Kontoyannis and Katsetos, p.32). FGM is a procedure that has no health benefits on girls or woman, causes severe psychological and physiological problems and it is most practiced in Africa as a cultural ritual. Moreover, Elizabeth Bransfield in her case studies involving FGM in ‘Gender, Anthropology and Religion’ argues that it is a religious ritual and cultural issue. Yet, I argue that it is overlooked that the ritual has no medical reasons because the female body is adversely harmed. Psychologically, the victim of FGM suffers a lot of pain during the procedure which is done mostly in unhygienic conditions and without anesthetic. Also, the removal of the clitoris is painful due to its having a lot of nerve endings. Injuries to the genital area could also leave scars on the victim’s body considering that the procedure is undertaken mostly unprofessionally, in poor lighting and at times in the bush. (Momoh, p.78). The thrashed, fearful and screaming victims could easily aggravate the injuries put on them by the operations of personnel who are not trained in handling medical cases. Lack of medical facilities could also result in dire consequences, including death in case of complications. Infections due to the use of unhygienic procedures is a common side effect that arises due to the use of unhygienic tools, dirty herbs or untested traditional medicines. Death and diverse medical conditions such as bacterial infections which result from the many underlying c onditions under which FGM is done. When the

Culture's influence on social and developmental processes Assignment

Culture's influence on social and developmental processes - Assignment Example The particular psychological makeup of any person is the outcome of both culture transmission (nurture) and biological transmission (nature). There are different factors that combine in shaping and creating a person. These factors are cultural and biological factors. Parents are seen to be a proximal influence as the genetic composition of every person comes equally from either the biological father or mother (Berry et al., 1997). In addition, the distant relatives of an individual and the particular biological blend formed by them are substantial factors contributing to the biological uniqueness. Also, blood quantum or race may contribute to uniqueness. In conclusion, factors that contribute to the distal cultural transmissions which shape directly the person are things like cultural beliefs that regard the worth and nature of children, gender related tasks to people or assignment of a precise age. Above all, the parents are proximal influences who play a great role to the child by socializing the increasing members of culture (Berry et al., 1997). Additionally, there are a lot of indirect cultural influences which may be powerful and passive. They include; mentors, neighbors, grandparents and

Bast fibers and glass fibers Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Bast fibers and glass fibers - Coursework Example Data from various literature sources was compiled and used to a Life Cycle Inventory for the production of flax fibres. Three scenario were studied for the production of different fibers including natural bast fiber flax, glass fiber and china reed. The best method for agriculture practice was identified for the fibre production from the research. It is found out that flax fibre environmental characteristics can be enhanced with the use of biological control pests and organic fertilizers. Also, another most energy intensive fiber processing operation is spinning. This eliminates the energy use and eliminated associated environmental impacts. According to the energy analysis carried out, the reinforcement of glass fiber was found to be more effective in flax yarn. Similar amounts of Flax siver and glass fiber have same amount of energies quantities. The format chosen for reinforcement determines the environmental benefit arising from substitution of glass fibres by natural fibre. The most important factor to consider is the use of spun fibers as effective reinforcements in polymer matrix composites. In various engineering applications it is often the case that a given homogenous core material is reinforced using another material that is stiffer and also stronger to achieve required mechanical and material property. Usually the constituent material used for the reinforcement is fibrous. From a broad perspective fiber materials used for material composite reinforcement can be natural or synthetic.

Inhalation injuries - Research Paper Example Observed increase of cases had been observed in incidents related to fire such as the attack in the World Trade Center wherein 49% of the victims suffered inhalation injury. Based on the WHO data, more than 1 billion people suffer airway and pulmonary inflammation due to different forms of fires (Rehberg et al. 284). The process of heat generation in combustion that produces smoke can cause thermal injury in the upper airway. The soot referred to as particulate matters during combustion can clog and irritate the airways resulting to reflex bronchoconstriction. Other compounds in the form of gas can lead to different types of injury and asphyxiation such as carbon monoxide; hydrogen cyanide; aldehydes (from furniture and cotton); chlorine gas, ammonia, hydrocarbons acids and ketones (from rubber and plastics); and the most common component of smoke phosgene gas (Serebrisky, Nazarian and Connolly 1). The mechanism of the injury can be attributed to the component of the smoke. The effects of smoke inhalation are divided into the effects of the gas phase and the particle phase. Thus, different parts of the respiratory system can be affected by the different components of the smoke namely the upper airway, the tracheobronchial system or lower airway, lung parenchyma, and systemic toxicity. The three types of smoke inhalation injury are thermal injury due to cell injury and pulmonary parenchymal which commonly affects the upper airway, chemical irritation and hypoxemia of the respiratory tract and the systemic toxicity leading to organ damage due to the action of toxic gases (Rehberg et al. 284; Serebrisky, Nazarian and Connolly 1). There are different indications of inhalation injuries such as facial and neck burns, burned lips and vibrissae, soot-containing airway secretions, pathological respiration patterns such as coughing, stridor and hoarseness, dyspnea, cyanosis and neurological symptoms such as unconsciousness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting.

Ethical and Legal Issues in the Workplace Research Paper

Ethical and Legal Issues in the Workplace - Research Paper Example In terms of workplace conditions, modern racism does not lead to hate against women and other minorities; however, they cause discomfort and avoidance from members of the majority (Cornelius, 2002). Where the workplace or organization has some groups which represent minority populations, they usually create a crucial group of people who can also protect these members from unfavourable stereotypes (Cornelius, 2002). In some instances, the increased number of women in the upper rungs of management is linked with a decreased tendency towards stereotyping. Authors discuss the significance of indicating threshold points where there is a sufficient number of minorities in groups in securing diversity change techniques (Kosek, et.al., 2003). Tsui and Gutek (1999) also point out consistent indications which express more similarities among supervisors and subordinates in terms of age, ethnicity, and gender correlations with human resource outcomes performing better and having less role ambigu ity and conflict. Leck, et.al., (1995) discuss that some organizations which are more diverse (i.e higher female population), also manifest with lesser wage gaps. Among groups, studies indicate that there are varying results and outcomes from diverse setups. Analysis by McLeod and colleagues (1996) indicate that more diverse groups were likely to engage in improved quality solutions in terms of brainstorming, mostly in relation to homogeneous groups; they also displayed more coordination and cooperation.

Parts of an APA Paper - Essay Example As the style would be created in conjunction with the American Psychological Association, there would in turn be an element of psychological consideration given to its overall formation and creation. The primary section found within the created APA work, would be the first page, or the title page. A page that would consist of a header placed in the upper right hand corner, along with the first two words from the decided upon title. Next, what would follow would be the running head section, or the outlining of the title of the work. Lastly, the primary page would see its title mentioned once more, this time towards the middle of the page and halfway down. Further information besides this, may include the individuals name, as well as the organization that they would have completed the work through. Attention to detail and construction would be of the utmost imperative, as the overall research compiled would be assessed to determine, whether or not, the information gathered would sufficiently warrant publication in the first place. Following the title page, would be the inclusion of an abstract. Its relevance is outlined as follows, "A well-prepared abstract can be the most important paragraph in your article," (APA, 2002, p.12). For many who seek to observe written material, the abstract will most likely be the first thing that is viewed, in order to grasp the general nature of the material that is to be presented as the reader goes over it. Further outlining the importance of this abstract, "Readers frequently decide on the basis of the abstract whether to read the entire article; this is true whether the reader is at a computer or is thumbing through a journal," (APA, 2002, p.12). With the understanding and approach towards reading the material bearing upon the construction of the abstract, the writer would need to construct the abstract in such a manner that would effectively detail the subsequent material that they would have gathered. As would be the case with the portions encompassing the written work, it would remain crucial that each portion would be produced in such a manner that would be succinct and accurate. The abstract would be a detailed account of what would reside within the paper itself, rather than an instance for assessment of the general nature of the work. The language used shall remain clear and easy to understand. Following the abstract, the next item to come within the paper, would be the addition of an Introduction. The primary purpose of this section would be to state the issue(s) to be addressed and the manner at which any research was performed, in order to come to a subsequent conclusion(s). As for length, "A good introduction answers these questions in a paragraph or two and, by summarizing the relevant arguments and the data, gives the reader a firm sense of what was done and why," (APA, 2002, p.16). While the material would be discussed, it would be done so briefly, rather than in cons iderable detail. Lastly, the purpose of the piece, or the thesis statement, is outlined within the final portion of the introductory section. The next section would be for the method. A section that would be divided into parts and would discuss such things as those who took part in the research, whatever things were used during the research and whatever methods that were taken in pursuit of conducting the research. Social media Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Social media - Essay Example There is a perception that non-users of social media are timid, scrupulous, and unsocial. Murat reveals that students who are extrovert use and stay longer on the social media sites in comparison to the introverts. Interestingly, people who are shy and anxious are frequent users of these sites though despite them having fewer following or friends. There is a trend that individuals who exhibit honesty in these sites tend to get social support from users of the social sites in discussion. However, it can be argued that individuals with smaller social friends in these sites have little motivation to use the networking sites hence it can be argued that the relationship between shyness and how frequently the sites are used has no significance. It is for these reasons that it can be stated with absolute certainty that the purpose of using social media sites; the methods incorporated; time spent; and on the sites have a relationship with individual traits of the users (Murat 77). The big five model of personality can be effectively and efficiently validated to illuminate the above conviction. Report from ProQuest (1) lists that the big five model constitutes of contentiousness, openness to experience, agreeableness, neuroticism, and extroversion. Extroversion encompasses either an individual possessing the trait of being an outgoing individual and energetic or the converse where one exhibits the traits of being reserved and solitary. On the other hand, neuroticism includes how sensitive or nervous individuals can be or how secure and confident they are while agreeableness tends to focus on friendliness and compassionate and conversely unkind and cold nature of some persons. ProQuest report (1) also asserts that conscientiousness attempts to categorize traits in terms of how efficient and organized a person can be or being easy going but careless. The last of the big five entails traits that certain kind of people exhibit by being open to experience.

Criteria of American Rebels John Reed, Joseph Freeman, and Louis Research Paper

Criteria of American Rebels John Reed, Joseph Freeman, and Louis Fischer Used in the History Evaluation - Research Paper Example The developing stories of World War I, the Mexican Revolution, and the Bolshevik Revolution show the various stages through which the world has evolved before accomplishing its status. Apparently, the universe has been through series of social, economic and political transformations for the longest time since the introduction of the industrial revolution followed by series of inventions and discoveries that have shaped the world to what it is today (John Reed’s Selected Writings 76-158). Many people recognize the contributions of John Reed in the analysis of the Mexican Revolution as well as the happenings of World War I that have influenced international relationships between countries across the globe. Despite the raging debate over the contributions of World War and the infamous Mexican Revolution to the current status, it is important to recognize the views and opinions of the John Reed that have also illuminated understanding of many learners across the globe (John Reedâ €™s Selected Writings 76-158). In particular, Reed focused on the positive and negative aspects of the Mexican Revolution of 1911. He used unique criteria to create a clear and more comprehensible understanding of the Revolution, which has influenced the social, economic, and political dynamics of current Mexico as well as the neighborhood (Reed 63-78). The Americans (USA) did not understand the 1911 Mexico Revolution. However, the revolution found a soft landing in short stories, silent films, and American novels. The novels have particularly displayed a comprehensive analysis of the stages through which the country went through before attaining political, social and economic independence. Today, the United States and Mexico share fundamental similarities, which have immensely helped the process of shaping up an understanding of the relations between the two countries. Stereotypes about Mexico dominated American films during the 20thcentury (Reed 63-78). The first criteria that John Reed used were to examine and analyze whether or not the people of Mexico engaged in the fierce fight for the sake of it or because they wanted things they could not afford through the alternative option.

Gender Oppression in Hollywood TV shows from 2000s-present Annotated Bibliography

Gender Oppression in Hollywood TV shows from 2000s-present - Annotated Bibliography Example Here they carried out an analysis to find out more about gender inequality both on the screen and behind the camera. Their findings were as fascinating as they found out that cases of gender oppression are still on the rise in Hollywood. A part from having a considerably small representation in Hollywood, the females are treated with lots of prejudice-given feminine roles, made to be dependent on their male counterparts and can not assume leading roles in these films. Indeed, this article can be of much value to me when conducting a research on the topic. It has a lot of important information which can help me to conduct my research. As these scholars state, gender inequality is still an issue in Hollywood. If properly analyzed, it can help me to understand the extent to which female oppression is practiced in Hollywood. Its findings capture diverse areas that will form part of my research by giving it a baseline for analysis. This article was written by Chloe Beighley and Jeff Smith in 2013. It was aimed at studying the qualitative and quantitative disparities in gender representation in Hollywood shows produced in 2012. To do their research, these scholars opted do use a sample of 7 films from which they would analyze how the male and female genders have been appearing in these shows. After carrying out an extensive survey, they found out that gender oppression is a reality in Hollywood. It has been manifested in a large number of Hollywood shows. Despite occupying a passive position, the female characters are either given stereotypical roles or placed to be under men. In fact, they found out that only 12 shows had female leading characters. The rest of the 55 had men in dominant roles. When conducting a research on Gender Oppression in Hollywood TV shows, I will have to include this article a one o the references. It has a lot of
